The upcoming Gem Bourse in Jaipur will make India a key global hub in the gem and jewelry sector.
The 21st edition of the Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS) took place from 22nd to 25th December 2023 at the Novotel Jaipur Convention Centre. The B2B & B2C show attracted over 50,000 visitors this year. The show was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Diya Kumari, and in her keynote address, she said, “Jaipur is synonymous with jewellery and JJS has become a much-awaited annual event on the calendar. The gems and jewellery industry is a great support to the economy and it directly employs 200,000 individuals. The industry also plays a big role in “repeat tourism” as people come to Jaipur from across the globe to buy jewellery. ”The Deputy CM further said that the JJS gives opportunities to craftsmen, budding designers and young jewellers which is praiseworthy. The time has come to take the show to the next level, and it should mark its presence internationally by planning shows in other countries, just like the Jaipur Literature Festival, she added. She also assured the JJS team of the support from the Government for the gems & jewellery industry. The Guest of Honour, Vipul Shah, Chairman, GJEPC, said that 2023 was a challenging year for the gems and jewellery industry owing to the geopolitical concerns and economic downturn. However, the industry has bounced back and is experiencing a gradual but significant rise. “As associations and bodies of this huge industry, our objective has been the same – to take this sector to even greater heights,” he said, adding, “The GJEPC and the industry bodies are jointly undertaking various initiatives such as the establishment of the diamond bourse in Surat and the upcoming Gem Bourse in Jaipur, which will make India a key global hub in this sector. ”The theme for this year’s JJS was ‘Emerald… Your Stone Your Story’. To promote emeralds, a group of 15 members was formed as the Emerald Promotion Group with Gemfields as the prime emerald promotion partner.
