Gübelin Gem Lab Expands to Bangkok, Introducing AI-Driven Gem Passport for Enhanced Reliability
Gübelin Gem Lab has opened a new facility in Bangkok, Thailand, marking its fourth location globally. The lab will focus on providing a full range of gemological services, particularly the innovative AI-powered Gem Passport, which enhances the reliability of gem analyses. Bangkok is recognized as a key hub for the colored gemstone industry, prompting Gübelin's expansion to meet the increasing demand for trustworthy gemological services. Raphael Gübelin, president of the House of Gübelin, stated that the city’s vibrant gemstone trade makes it an ideal location for the lab. The Gem Passport includes essential gemstone identification features such as species, variety, and country of origin, utilizing automated evaluations through Gübelin's Gemtelligence tool. This AI-driven approach not only streamlines testing but also reduces costs, with the document priced at CHF 200 ($215). Located in the Jewelry Trade Center on Silom Road, the Bangkok lab aims to make trusted gem analyses more accessible, particularly for smaller or moderately valued gemstones. Daniel Nyfeler, managing director at Gübelin Gem Lab, emphasized that the Gem Passport offers a more accessible alternative to traditional gemological reports.
