Mr. Sumed Prasongphongchai, Director of the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) (GIT), announced that GIT has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with two organizations from the People's Republic of China to strengthen cooperation in developing industry knowledge, standards, marketing, and trade for the gem and jewelry sector.
The MOUs were signed with Mr. Zheng Qi Song, General Manager of Shanghai Jing'an Real Estate Group Import and Export Co., Ltd., and Mr. Simon Chan, Chief Executive Officer of China Gems & Jade Exchange, at the Zhangyuan Brand Bonded Warehouse Building in Shanghai.
The agreements aim to establish a stronger trade cooperation network and create new business opportunities for Thai gem and jewelry entrepreneurs in the Chinese market. They will also enhance the competitiveness of the gem and jewelry industries in both countries while enabling Thai businesses to expand their operations and gain more effective access to the Chinese market, further strengthening Thailand–China cooperation in the sector.
"GIT will prepare Thai entrepreneurs by providing industry knowledge, product certification, quality assurance, and business matching services. Meanwhile, China Gems & Jade Exchange will offer guidance on market entry strategies, regulatory compliance, and customs facilitation. Shanghai Jing'an Real Estate Group Import and Export Co., Ltd. will support bonded warehouse services, product exhibitions, logistics, and business networking opportunities. Together, these efforts will comprehensively strengthen the competitiveness of Thai entrepreneurs in the Chinese market," said Mr. Sumed.

In addition, GIT led a delegation to participate in business discussions and visit a company operating an international duty-free gem and jewelry exhibition platform. The visit provided valuable insights into modern trade models and approaches for expanding Thailand's gem and jewelry exports to international markets.
This initiative forms part of the SMART JEWELER by GIT program, which aims to enhance the capabilities of Thai gem and jewelry entrepreneurs by equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to compete in the global marketplace. The program focuses on brand development, design innovation, value creation, consumer insights, and international business networking, empowering Thai businesses to expand their commercial opportunities and achieve sustainable growth on the global stage.
